10 Jun Relax weekend in the Pyrenees
At last, we found some space in our busy schedule and decided with very short notice to refuge up in the Pyrenees. It´s been a while since the last time and now we really longed to breathe that fresh air again. After a slow morning, including a walk by the seashore and a coffee and a fresh croissant in our favorite café in Vilanova (Dolç y Salat) we got in the car and drove the 1 hour and 45 minutes it takes to reach the «closest» high mountains in the Pyrenees. I´m as amazed each time. In less than 2 hours you are up to 2000 m, surrounded by beautiful forests and listening to no other noise but the bells from the cows grazing in the green fields below, and the birds. Love and peace folks!
We always search for accommodation through Booking.com and this time was no exception. By using their map search we found the most charming little hotel, Cal Sadurní, located in Planoles, a village we had not visited before. 95¢ for a double bedroom, a suite with a private terrace with an astonishing view and a great breakfast. How about this room? I just love the rustic stone-and-log mountain cabin style that is common in the villages in the Pyrenees!
The view from our room was simply amazing. Especially from the terrace. Shades of blue! An extra plus was the little bird’s nest under the roof. Very busy place!
There are plenty of well-marked paths, something that makes it easy to enjoy the beautiful natural parks. Either you go for a couple of hours or you take off on a walk-about that lasts several days. If you like mushroom picking you are in heaven. The season is on all year around! The Catalans love wild mushrooms and it is a common hobby to pick them. There are even restaurants specialized in mushrooms! This weekend we enjoyed the mushrooms picked and ready, in a delicious dish in the restaurant, and went for an excursion along the river. We save the picking for later 🙂
