Welcome to one of the oldest houses in this charming little village and, for decades, the home of a family dedicated to the fine arts. This house is unique because even being more than 100 years old, the rooms are bathing in daylight, and you can adapt the distribution of the bedrooms to your needs. Moreover, it has a beautiful and sunny garden protected by a tall wall and also a separate little park just across the street. Over the years, the house has been renovated, but original elements such as the underground wine storage (the “cup”) and the original entrance for the horse wagon, the wooden beams ceilings, the floors in three of the bedrooms, etc., have been conserved.
The house, consisting of two floors, each one of 100 m2, has windows at three sides and all the rooms are exterior. When we enter through the main entrance, with the original wooden door in place, we arrive at a hall, and to the left, we enter the combined living room/ dining room with a large fireplace. The ceramics for the fireplace are made by one of the most famous ceramics in Catalonia, especially for this house. The fireplace is typical from the region, with the fire directly on the floor level. It is constructed with a special terracotta that conserves the heat. This combined living-/dining room connects to the kitchen, which has a window overlooking the interior garden. The kitchen can be enlarged, as the wall towards the living-/diningroom can easily be removed.
The kitchen and the entrance hall are both connect at the right hand with the antique “garage” for the horse wagon, a generous space of 40 m2 with a beautiful vaulted ceiling. It has the original massive wooden door towards the street and opens up on the other end towards the sunny interior garden. In summer, this is a perfect dining room, shaded and with a breeze of fresh air running through if you open the doors. In this room, the “porche”, is the old wine storage, the “Cup” as it´s called in Catalan. It´s an underground deposit with the walls still covered with antique ceramics. This can be converted into a decorative detail, for example by covering it with glass, install light and create a beautiful wine storage. The garden, the one in direct connection to the house, is of 100 m2 and is all walled in and makes a charming private haven. The 50-year-old olive tree gives a generous yield of the tasty olive Arbequina each year and the bay tree is decorative and, the leaves are excellent to use in your favorite recipes. The loquat tree gives plenty of fruit as well. Did you know the loquat fruit is rich in vitamin A and minerals and is one of the new “superfoods”?
As the garden has a door to the street it´s not needed to bring garden waste etc. through the house. Moreover, the door is divided into an upper and a lower half, which can be opened during warm days to let in the fresh breeze in the garden (and check out what the neighbors are up to!). The walls are made of solid stone, why you can remove the surface material and restore the original look.
On the upper floor are five rooms and a full bathroom, with a window. In all rooms, even in the bathroom, the wooden beams in the ceiling are visible. In three of the bedrooms are the original, more than 100-year-old, ceramic floors conserved and in good condition. As there are no interior support walls on this floor, you can adjust the rooms’ layout.
Across the peaceful village street is a fenced-in garden of 170 m2. It´s a little park, with a building useful for keeping tools, garden furniture, wood, etc. This land is a separate entity in the registry and has its separate water meter. It´s classified as “urban”, so if you would like to build here it is possible to apply for permission. You can let your creativity roam; set up a little guest house or the spa you always dreamt of a private pool area with a sauna or create a fantastic kitchen garden with an outdoor kitchen and a barbecue house!
All the decorative details and furniture you see in the pictures are included in the price. Most of them are antiques and have a history connected to the house and/or to the artist family that lived here.
