Does the thought of having a medieval valve spanning across your spacious en-suite bedroom thrill you? Would you find it intriguing having the sacred washbasin of the Knights Hospitaller with its original decoration in your dining room? Does stepping over handmade clay tiles from the 13th century (with the finger marks of the artisan) as you walk up the stairs give you goosebumps of excitement? Then this is your house!
Found as a ruin in the historic village Saifores and carefully restored by a team of Dutch experts with a deep interest in history, this house has recovered its splendor. Not only recovered it but added modern comfort like underfloor heating, beautiful bathrooms, and current distribution and size of the rooms. Here you have it all: fireplace and wood burner, central heating, plenty of historical details, natural materials, space, lots of daylight, a romantic garden divided into several “rooms”, a pool, a laundry room, a garage and lots of space for storage.
Open a bottle of quality wine from one of the neighboring wineries. Share it with your friends during a winter night dinner, while the warmth from the wood burner spreads comfort. Watch the candles cast a magical light over the hand-carved stone in the ancient sacred niches in the walls. During sweet summer nights, you can contemplate the stars while chilling in the pool, waiting for the barbecue to get glowing hot and ready for those goodies you bought in the village market. This charming home is inviting you to live your dream!
Saifores is a hamlet belonging to the township of Banyeres del Penedès, located in the district of Baix Penedès in the Tarragona region. The area is known for its rich and varied cultural offerings. Each village organizes several public street parties, including wine, gastronomy and folklore traditions like the human towers, fire dances, etc.
Saifores and the surrounding areas have a long and exciting history. There have been findings from the Iberian culture, and the Roman heritage is present in various architectural monuments. The earliest documents mentioning the township of Banyeres del Penedès are dating back to year 938, listing it as a property of the Monastery of Sant Cugat de Vallès.
Surrounded by vineyards and almond orchards and wedged between the Mediterranean and the coastal range, Saifores makes a perfect home base for lovers of the countryside, nature and an active lifestyle. An extensive network of well-marked paths for hiking and biking is spread out across the area and connecting the villages. Don´t be surprised if you meet the local shepherd and his sheep along the path! The sheep are helping to clean the landscape from bushes, and they assist producers of ecological wines in keeping the vineyards free from weed.
In just 10 minutes by car (10 km), you reach the golden beaches of Costa Daurada, with wide sandy beaches, long seaside promenades, exquisite restaurants, and cozy cafés and plenty of shopping.
Nearby, only 2 min by car (2 km), is the larger village Llorenç del Penedès, where you find restaurants, bars, a grocery store, and small shops, a pharmacy, banks, and the typical village cooperative winery. Llorenç is an active village, organizing many cultural events over the year, like wine fairs and the typical Catalan “fire runs” with dragons and little devils dancing in the streets. Of course, food, wine, and music are always present on these occasions.
El Vendrell, the capital of the Baix Penedès district, has an even more extensive offer of amenities and has an old town that is nice to visit. Also, here is where you have your nearest train station. In El Vendrell, you find most of the medical and dental services you need. The hospital, Hospital El Vendrell, located only 4 min from Saifores, is a fully equipped emergency hospital. No less than 17 medical specialties are serving.
